In the light of Urban October 2025 and the upcoming World Cities Day under the theme of people centered smart cities, the Just City Project of Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation in Africa will host an online event debating the realities of housing in African countries, highlighting the need for inclusive, accessible, and dignified living conditions across rapidly urbanizing African cities.

This online dialogue will bring together speakers from Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia and Sierra Leone, each offering grounded insights into the housing challenges unique to their local contexts. From informal settlements to rising land costs and incoherent policies, the speakers will critically examine the systemic barriers to housing justice.

More importantly, the session will showcase practical and community-driven housing solutions co-designed by local actors, trying to inspire and promote urban models that are centered on lived experience and grounded on people centered approaches to just cities.
